The Experience

The house that sits above the weather,
25 minutes from downtown Asheville.

If you found us through the Staycation episode, this is the house you watched: one home on a mountaintop at roughly 3,500 feet, with the valley folded out below the windows.

The road up is paved and it switchbacks, and then it ends at a private gated mountain community in the Blue Ridge. Mornings here start slowly. Mist moves through the valley while the Nespresso warms up and someone claims the chair by the floor-to-ceiling windows. By ten the clouds have usually dropped below the deck, which is how the house got its name.

Afternoons belong to the terrace. There is a Weber grill, a long table, a fire pit for later, and a Japanese cedar soaking tub facing the ridgelines. Downstairs, the music lounge holds a baby grand piano and a vintage record player, a nod to the songwriter who lived here before. Evenings end with the gas fireplace lit under vaulted beams, or with a movie thrown onto the projector screen on the balcony while the stars come out over Pisgah National Forest.

Downtown Asheville, North Carolina is twenty-five minutes down the mountain when you want restaurants and breweries. Most guests find they go once, then stay put.

Catch hot air balloons drifting over the Blue Ridge range as the layered peaks glow at sunrise beyond the tree canopy.

Why Cloud 9

This Modern Mountain Retreat
is not like the others.

01

A Mountaintop to Yourself

Cloud 9 stands alone at roughly 3,500 feet inside a private gated mountain community, with no shared walls, no shared drive, and no neighbors in the view.

02

Voted the Best Views in WNC

Guests and locals alike have called these the best mountain views in Western North Carolina, and the sunrises are the reason people rebook for the same week.

03

Five Miles to the Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway starts five miles from the driveway, so an overlook picnic is a spur-of-the-moment decision rather than a day trip.

04

Bring the Dogs

Two dogs up to 50 pounds each are welcome for a flat pet fee, with acres of quiet ground outside.

05

Starlink for Remote Work

Lightning-fast Starlink internet and a dedicated workspace mean a Monday here costs you nothing, which is how a long weekend becomes a long stay.

06

Top 1% of Homes on Airbnb

Cloud 9 ranks in the top one percent of homes on Airbnb for ratings, reviews and reliability, across 298 stays and counting.

Leaf season at this elevation goes first.

Early to mid October peaks up here, and those dates are usually claimed by summer. Check what is still open.

Worth the Drive Down

Five miles to the Parkway.
Twenty-five minutes to Asheville.

Candler puts you between two worlds: Pisgah National Forest out the back door, and the restaurants, breweries and galleries of Asheville, North Carolina a short drive down the mountain.

Blue Ridge Parkway
Five Miles From the Door

Blue Ridge Parkway

America's most beautiful drive begins five miles down the mountain, where the ridgelines stack up blue on blue and every overlook asks you to pull over.

Biltmore Estate
30 Minutes Away

Biltmore Estate

Two hundred and fifty rooms of Gilded Age excess, walled gardens, and a winery at the end of the tour, half an hour from your own quiet mountain door.

Downtown Asheville and the River Arts District
25 Minutes Away

Downtown Asheville and the River Arts District

Art deco storefronts, buskers on Lexington Avenue, and old riverside warehouses turned studios where you can watch a potter throw a bowl before dinner.

Black Mountain
45 Minute Drive

Black Mountain

A five block main street with rocking chairs on the sidewalk, a bakery worth the wait, and the Seven Sisters ridge watching over all of it.

Mount Mitchell
Hour and a Quarter Drive

Mount Mitchell

The highest ground east of the Mississippi, where spruce and fir close in, the air drops ten degrees, and the summit deck opens onto a hundred miles of mountains.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Ninety Minute Drive

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The most visited national park in the country, where morning fog pours off the ridges like smoke and elk graze the valley floor at dusk.

Seasons on the Mountain

Same house.
Four unique seasons.

Elevation changes the calendar. Spring arrives here a couple of weeks after it reaches Asheville, summer stays ten degrees kinder than the valley, and autumn color climbs down the ridge instead of up it. Whatever week you pick, the view out the floor-to-ceiling windows is doing something different.

Spring

Wildflowers and Full Water

Trilliums and flame azalea come up the mountain in waves, and every waterfall in Pisgah National Forest runs hard with snowmelt and spring rain.

Summer

River Days and Tree Canopies

Paddle the French Broad River in the morning, zipline through the canopy in the afternoon, then come back up the mountain where the evenings run cool.

Autumn

Peak Color on the Parkway

At this elevation the leaves turn early, usually early to mid October, and the Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks a few miles away are the best seats in Western North Carolina.

Winter

Fireside Above the Cloud Line

Bare ridgelines, long views, and mornings when the valley fills with cloud below the deck. Bring an AWD vehicle and stay by the fire.

Fall is the season that books out first, and at 3,500 feet the color peaks before the rest of the region catches up.

Before You Book

Questions guests ask
before they hit reserve.

Is booking direct here secure?

Yes. The calendar above is our PMS booking widget, the same property management system that runs our reservations and messaging. Dates, pricing, and payment are handled inside of a secure checkout, and your card details never touch this page.

When is my card charged?

Payment is collected through our PMS checkout when you confirm your reservation. The exact amount due at booking and any balance schedule for your dates are shown in checkout before you confirm, so nothing is charged until you have seen the full total.

What is the cancellation policy?

Moderate Cancellation Policy. 100% refund up to 30 days before arrival. 50% refund up to 14 days before arrival. If anything is unclear, message us before you book, and we will walk you through it.

What about pets?

Dogs are welcome for a $150 non-refundable pet fee per reservation, up to two dogs with a 50-pound maximum weight limit each. We politely request that you use the waterproof couch and bed covers we provide whenever your furry friends are on the furniture and beds.

Why book direct instead of Airbnb?

Same house, same calendar, same team, without the third-party service fee that gets added at checkout on the platforms. You also get a direct line to us as the owners, which means faster answers about the road, the weather at 3,500 feet, or an early arrival.

How does check-in work?

Self check-in with a smart lock. Check-in is any time after 4:00 PM and checkout is 10:00 AM, and the house sleeps a maximum of 6 guests. Cloud 9 sits inside a private gated mountain community, so we send gate and door codes along with directions before your arrival.
